Instant hot or cold water at every faucet
It is just a matter of habit: we turn on a faucet, and we can choose whether we want to have warm or cold water. But how does this work?
Usually, the drinking water is delivered to your house by a water utility company in large pipes. Once inside your house, water is filtered off into the cold water pipe which is connected directly to every faucet. All the other water is filtered off to the domestic hot water storage tank. It is heated up there, and filtered in warm water supply lines to the faucet.
The problem now is: if no warm water is retained out of the warm water pipe for a long time, it will get cold. If the faucet is opened then, cold water will come out of the warm water pipe. To obtain warm water in that case means to retain the whole content of warm water pipe unused to the drain, until new warm water appears from the domestic hot water storage tank. This wastes water, money and time, and is also bad for the environment. If you know about that long time waiting for warm water, you may need a recirculation line.
A recirculation line solves this problem. It is installed from the warm water supply line at the faucet furthest from the water heater back to the water heater or domestic hot water (DHW) tank. This results in a closed loop, in which the warm water can circulate constantly driven by a circulating pump: from the domestic hot water tank through the warm water pipe to the faucets, and back again to the heater or DHW tank. This installation ensures that instant hot water is available at every faucet. But it is not only about convenience and wellness. It is also about health.
Due to the fact that the warm water in the cold water supply line can not cool down under a certain temperature (provided that the heater is installed and working correctly), the proliferation of legionellas is avoided reliably. Legoinellas are responsible for the legionnaire’s disease.
To save even more money and to protect the environment, Laing circulating pumps that circulate the warm water in the recirculation line are available with optional timer. The hot water will circulate only in times when instant hot water is usually needed. Personal settings referring to individual preferences are therefore possible. For example, the pump shuts off during nighttimes, turning on automatically in the morning. That saves energy and money, and extends the service life of a pump. But please pay attention to your local rules about that: in some areas, the circulation may not be interrupted for a certain time. Your local plumber or installer will be glad to help you, and will inform you about all settings. Ask him for a Laing circulating pump.
Floor heating anywhere for everybody - Advantages when using a Laing system separation or system connection
Beside the fact that floor heating is not visible in a room compared with radiator heating, it has a further advantage: more convenience. Floor heating is radiant heat. This brings more convenience due to better heat distribution in all the whole room. Consistent floor heating does not disburse dust like a normal radiator or air conditioning heating does. This advantage may not be underrated but for anybody having allergies. Besides offering more convenience and being better for your health, floor heating has more advantages: it requires lower feed temperatures, and therefore saves money. But this might cause also problems:
If there are both radiator and floor heating with different supply temperatures in one single building, two different supply lines might be needed, being branched through the whole building: starting at the boiler, and going right through every single level or the whole house to the floor heating. This distance can be several floors. Laing offers a much easier-to-installed and cheaper solution for that, suitable even for retrofit installations of a floor heating:
Laing Mixing modules can be connected to the existing heat pipes like a usual radiator. The mixing module will mix the higher feed temperature of the primary heating loop to the needed lower temperature of the secondary floor heating loop. The mixing module comes completely pre-assembled, and can be installed in a flush-mounting cabinet. Due to the fact that the integrated spherical motor pump works whisper quiet, the mixing modules even can be installed in a wall right in the living area. This benefit takes away the need of a second supply line with a different feed temperature. Retrofit installation is easy to realize, the modification of the building is reduced significantly. This works very fine for multi apartment homes. And of course every single floor heating can be controlled individually, referring to personal preferences.
Retrofit installations are especially very interesting for small surfaces like in bathrooms. Laing offers the tiny mixing module BM mini for these applications. It offers more convenience due to better heat distribution caused by the integrated, whisper quiet circulating pump. The whole mixing module is only 13,5 cm deep. Therefore, placed in a flush-mounting cabinet, it fits in nearly every bathroom. A floor heating raises the convenience and the worth of a building or apartment significantly.
Laing also offers a problem solver for older systems: some older systems use pipes that are not protected against oxygen diffusion. Oxygen can diffuse through the pipes, and than the whole installation starts to corrode. The accumulation of sludge and mudge in the slow flow area of the floor heating pipes are the result. Thus ends in blocked pipes of the floor heating. The best retrofit way to solve this is a Laing heat exchanger: the primary boiler loop is completely separated from the secondary floor heating loop. There is only exchange of heat in the copper heat exchanger. The result: although there is still oxygen diffusing in the floor heating pipes, but due to the complete system separation, the oxygen stays only in the area of the floor heating and therefore does not find a partner for corroding, which is typically located in the primary loop. This provides long-time safety and reliability for many years. The Laing heat exchangers are compact and silent, and can therefore be installed right in the living area. Ask your plumber for a Laing Heat exchanger if you have trouble with the accumulation of sludge.
Central heating for seldom or irregular used areas like extended buildings, summer residences or ski lodges
Summer residences are great for a rest and relaxation. Therefore, the planning effort for a visit should be minimalized, regarding management, maintenance and care. An electronic hydronic heating (hot water heating) is the perfect solution: without any preparation, simply push the button on, and receive instant warmth.
No boiler room is necessary, no chimney, no duty of a regular service through a chimney sweeper, no gas connection with a monthly fee, no oil tank or oil deliveries, and there is no need to wait for the perfect moment to purchase oil because it might me cheap at that moment. No trouble at all. The only thing you need: a regular connection to the electricity – which surely is already there.
The Laing electronic hydronic heating (hot water heating) is installed in the system like any other boiler. It can be used for radiator or surface heating, like floor or wall heating. The electronic heaters are small in size, and fit in small places. They come as a compact station in flush-mounting cabinet, in a on-wall cabinet or mounted on a transport board. They can be used as only heat system, or as backup system for other heat sources. The heat capacity is a range from 2 to 15 kW, which should be enough for surfaces of 30 sqm up to 200 sqm.
This providesyou flexibility, and your heating effortsare reduced significantly. Ask your plumber for a Laing electronic hydronic heating.
